Whilst the main focus of what we do is working on long term projects with schools, we do offer one-offs. We like to use the arts to help pupils and teachers look at a topic in a different way and enjoy a great creative experience at the same time.
Here are some examples of our recent work in schools:
Sandringham Primary School in Intake held a ‘Green Day’ to mark the start of Britain’s biggest education initiative on sustainability. Artist Caroline Gaytor worked with 30 pupils from Years One – Six. Together they found a new use for rubbish as they recycled plastic bags, bottles and scraps of material to create an amazing under-the-sea picture.
Pupils from Bentley High Street Primary School got a taste of Africa when Zimbabwean musician and performance artist Godfrey Pambalipe worked with Year One pupils. Teacher Jessica Ho said: “Our topic was about food and we have been comparing our food with children in Africa and comparing our culture with theirs.”
As well as using the arts to explore different cultures, it can also tackle topics such as disability.
At Don Valley School and Performing Arts College, drama worker Sarah Osborne explored issues around disability with groups of seven pupils as part of their diversity day. Teacher Jo Metcalfe said it was, "hugely successful". Drama is a great way of exploring the topic of disability and gives young people a chance to voice opinions and ask questions in a safe environment.
These are just a few examples of the kind of work we do – if you would like to talk about working with darts on a one-off project please get in touch with Beci.
