| Elephant and Mahout will be recreated in a springtime exhibition at The Point. |
Doncaster's Sand House, a large dwelling carved into sandstone, was famous between 1850 until WW2. 'Sand House - The Elephant in the Room' exhibition recreates carvings from the house including a 40-tonne 'Elephant and Mahout' and arrives at The Point in May.
The exhibition will also feature a time-lapse video showing the ‘Elephant & Mahout’ being carved by artist Jamie Wardley. He will also be running school and family workshops and training days for artists interested in carving.
At Mansion House on Thursday 16th February from 1.30pm, Richard Bell will present an illustrated talk entitled ‘The Sand House – A Victorian Marvel’ followed by a book signing session of ‘The Sand House – A Victorian Marvel Revisited’, written by Richard Bell and Peter Tuffrey.
