Hannah and the arts - discovering passion

Hannah and the arts – a story of undiscovered passion

e2e (Entry to Employment) offers young people aged 14-16 who are no longer in education access to basic skills, personal development and vocational training to help them move on to training, further education, college, apprenticeships or employment.

darts artists worked with ten young people referred through e2e to help them build confidence and gain self-esteem.

One of these young people is called Hannah. This is her story...

Hannah seemed quite shy. She was willing to take part in sessions but didn’t initiate much conversation. She had been home schooled and time at The Point gave her the chance to mix with other young people and to gain skills that are useful for employment like turning up to a regular location on time, working as a team and developing social and communication skills.

It was good for Hannah to see how her peers respond and react to situations, which at times she found challenging and a real eye opener, but her new found confidence lead to a positive attitude and a willingness to give new activities a try.

Over the weeks Hannah took part loads of different activities like music, creative writing, breakdancing, and graffiti art. She described her experience as "awesome and surprising".

By meeting words worker Sarah Osborne, Hannah had a chance to develop her passion for writing. At home she writes a lot – particularly fantasy stories, but with Sarah’s support and encouragement she has been inspired to pursue her passion further.
