The Orangery- helping voices to be heard

How can the arts enable and give voices to those who struggle to be heard?

The Orangery is an after school performing arts group for young adults with learning and physical difference. The programme of work is designed to enable independence and confidence within everyone involved.

The work aims to give a voice to those who so often struggle to be heard. Artists offer a range of options and responses to the work allowing everyone a choice and control over the final outcome.

The workshops improve life skills, exploring themes relevant to young adults from relationships to aspirations and goals for the future. The group drive the direction of each creative venture, their ideas, suggestions and concerns all influencing and shaping every product.

The group meet every Thursday during term time from 4:30-6:30pm. Once together the group share their thoughts and create imaginative pieces of drama, lively songs, and energetic dances! The group engage in skills-based workshops and are encouraged to build on their understanding of each other and the world around them.
