At the end of September, The Point hosted a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Event commissioned by Doncaster PCT.
As well as hosting the event in a welcoming building, Doncaster PCT wanted darts artists to use their skills to help facilitate the informal discussion between patients with MS, their families and health professionals.
The patients and family talked about how MS affects their everyday life from the day they were diagnosed with the condition to ongoing care and support. This gave health professionals the chance to see how these experiences could shape the way they consult with patients and their families in the future.
Elaine Capon, Assessment Officer, Adult Social Care Team, DMBC said:
"This event was the most refreshing hour and a bit of 'training' that I have had. There were five people and one carer who all spoke of their experiences of having MS, from the first difficult days of diagnosis to their current situations, and I think I learnt more in that short time than in most other training I have had."
The event was filmed by darts and the resulting short film will be put on the national MS site and the local NHS site with a link sent to doctors and health professionals to raise their awareness of how the condition really affects patients.
