Improving drugs education in schools

This innovative project shows teachers creative ways of delivering lessons to 14-16 year olds on the difficult issue of substance misuse.

The training is centred on a drugs education DVD which was written, filmed and produced by the RAIL (Re-integrated and Independent Living) group. The RAIL group is a group of ex drug users from different backgrounds with a variety of life experiences. RAIL worked with darts over a year to create an honest account of addiction to educate and inform young people.

With funding and support from Doncaster Healthy Schools darts has created a practical training package for schools across Doncaster. So far 93 teachers and 13 schools have received the free training.

The training offers teachers an invaluable insight into the pack and the lives of the people who made it possible. Feedback from the sessions has shown that teachers now feel empowered to deliver lessons that explore addiction in much broader terms.

Training sessions are held at The Point. If you are interested in attending this free training please contact darts' education team to reserve a session for your school.
