Family-friendly activities at The Point
We love to see families at The Point and recently we’ve been working to provide more family-friendly activities – our most recent What’s On Guide (July – December 2018) contained more activities for families than ever before. All activities for families at The Point are free to attend.
All Aboard: Holiday Family Workshops
All Aboard is a current programme of work funded by BBC Children In Need. The basis of it is to work with children with disabilities and their families to offer them something new – more choice, more opportunities to express themselves, more independence. All Aboard focuses on providing out-of-school activities, whether these are after-school clubs or creative workshops for families during school holidays. These workshops take place at The Point; we have sessions specially designed for children with disabilities, which tailor to their individual needs, followed by sessions that are open to all children. So far this year our All Aboard families have explored lantern-making, clay, dance and music! You can find out more about All Aboard here.
Booking is essential to attend our family workshops – email email@example.com if you would like to reserve a space on any upcoming activities.
Saturday Family Workshops
Our Saturday Family Workshops provide the opportunity for parents or carers to get creative with their child(ren)! They are open to all and run on the first Saturday of each month at 10am- 12pm. Remember to book at firstname.lastname@example.org!
We have recently expanded our programme to include events designed for families. In May this year we held #PointFEST, our first family-friendly music festival. It was a brilliant day with loads of creativity and great sounds – read all about it here.
To celebrate the launch of our Microbes exhibition in July, we held a Family Fun Day complete with creative activities themed around the exhibition. 12-year-old Alfie visited and kindly wrote a review for us – have a read here.
We are proud to meet the national standards to ensure that we are both Family Friendly and Age Friendly. This means that we work hard to provide a welcoming and positive experience for all visitors, regardless of their age.
These standards are put in place by the Family Arts Campaign and are designed to help families know what they should expect from an organisation, covering the basic considerations of families visiting any time of arts experience. Our meeting the national standards means that we provide an annual and varied programme of high quality activity for children and young people of all abilities at The Point and in a range of community settings.
The Point has full disabled access throughout the building, including a Changing Place Facility which you are welcome to use – just ask at Reception for the fob. We are committed to providing a welcoming space for all.
