The Great Doncaster Get Together 2019

The Great Doncaster Get Together was an incredible event at Sir Nigel Gresley Square on June 21 and 22 2019.

Jointly led by darts (Doncaster Community Arts) and Cast, The Great Doncaster Get Together was an incredible event at Sir Nigel Gresley Square on June 21 and 22 2019.

Families from all across Doncaster came together to share music, arts and a summer picnic, whilst supporting an important message. All with glorious weather too!

Hundreds of families enjoyed the glorious weather and celebrated kindness, respect, and all that we have in common, with wonderful activities and a picnic.

The events were funded by the Department of Education’s Opportunity Area funding through EXPECT Youth (as part of a larger Cultural Playground project) with additional funds from Spirit of 2012.

Nicola Doyle, the Audience Engagement Officer at Cast said “We are thrilled to have worked alongside darts to be able to celebrate the rich diversity of the town, and it was wonderful to see so many children and families enjoy spending time together and experiencing something new”.

There was so much for families to enjoy, including a bouncy castle, face painting, henna painting, outdoor games, arts and crafts, dancers and circus performers. The event was also attended by local MP Rosie Winterton.

There were 829 participations counted on the day. Families got involved in dance, music and arts sessions and ate, played and had fun together. There was also a bouncy castle, games and henna tattoos.

The event took place as part of a larger engagement project called ‘The Cultural Playground’. The project aims to increase the number of culturally diverse families living locally in accessing arts venues in the town centre.

This is the first time that darts and Cast have collaborated on a Great Get Together event and we were really pleased with the results. We plan to continue working together to attract more diverse audiences into our venues and offer welcoming and accessible activities for all to enjoy.
